On September 3, a researcher at the department for organizing excursions of the Bolgar Museum‑Reserve G. M. Musina held a class hour titled “The tragedy of Beslan” for 17 students in grades 7 and 9 at Bolgar sanatorium boarding school.
September 1 is a day that children have been looking forward to since early childhood. The tragic events that unfolded in 2004 in the city of Beslan, North Ossetia, made the whole world look at that day through different eyes. A class session dedicated to the Beslan tragedy evokes empathy and compassion for others’ suffering in children and, using the tragic event as an example, shows what mutual assistance, mutual support, and heroism are.
During the session, the children took part in a discussion, answered questions, and shared their thoughts about this tragedy. They also learned about such concepts as “terrorism,” “terror,” and “terrorist.” In conclusion, the participants received brochures on counter‑terrorism and personal safety.
