On July 8, a researcher at the Bolgar Museum-Reserve N.O. Ahundov held the event “The legendary Battle of Poltava” for a tourist group from St. Petersburg, which was dedicated to the Day of Military Glory.
The participants learned interesting details about the victorious battle in the Great Northern War of 1700-1721, the famous victory, and the tactics used by Peter the Great and the Russian military. Even before the battle, Peter I deliberately lured the Swedes, depriving the enemy army of the opportunity to replenish supplies for its soldiers and cavalry along the way, which had a significant impact on the morale and combat effectiveness of Charles’s cavalry.
The tourists learned that the Russians pioneered the use of earthen fortifications in warfare, and developed a mobile cavalry artillery force.
The guests listened to the material dedicated to this event and watched clips from Vladimir Petrov’s 1937 film “Peter the Great,” showing great interest and gaining a lot of new information.
