On June 29, a researcher at the Bolgar Museum-Reserve N.O. Ahundov held the event “The roads of partisans” for tourists from Samara, which was dedicated to the Day of Partisans and Underground Fighters. Today, this day is a commemorative date in Russia, which has been celebrated since 2010.
Partisans have always played an important role in all wars, operating behind enemy lines and contributing to victory. The main goal of the partisan war during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was to disrupt the front’s supply system by disrupting communication and transportation networks. According to some reports, the partisans killed, wounded, and captured approximately 1 million people during the war. The partisans disabled more than 4,000 tanks and armored vehicles, blew up 58 armored trains and 12,000 bridges, destroyed 65,000 vehicles, caused 20,000 derailments of enemy trains, and disabled more than 10,000 locomotives and 110,000 wagons and platforms.
The tourists learned about famous Soviet partisans, such as Sidor Kovpak, Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, Valentina Grizodubova, Lev Durov, Nina Obuhova, and Fyodor Kovalenok. Guests watched archival footage and interviews with famous partisans.
