On January 5, a researcher of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve N.O. Ahundov held an event on “Traditions of celebrating the New Year.”
As part of the educational work and the first days of the New Year, tourists learned about the history and conduct of this holiday, the traditions of its celebration among different peoples.
In Russia, holiday customs originate from Soviet times where the New Year was solemnly celebrated starting on January 1, 1936. This holiday replaced the traditional celebration of the Nativity of Christ and partially adopted its symbolism. This tradition is generally preserved today. Also in Russia, there is a custom to celebrate the Old New Year, which comes from January 13 to January 14, and is associated with the shift of days in the calendar of a hundred years ago.
It should be noted that in many cultures there are different but similar New Year characters. Traditionally in Russia, Father Frost and his granddaughter Snegurochka give gifts to children, and kids tell them poems.
At the end of the event, tourists from different regions of the country talked about their traditions of celebrating the New Year.
18 people attended the event.
