On December 19, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Rogachyova M.N. gave a lecture “Their names are in the streets of our city” to 17 3rd grade students of Bolgar secondary school No. 1.
Like any other city, Bolgar has its own biography. Today, many of its streets bear the names of prominent people who lived at different times in the city or in Spassky district. When we often pronounce the name of a street, we do not even think about who it’s named after, who that person was. Therefore, it is important to convey to the younger generation that street names are not just names and surnames, but also someone’s life and destiny. It is necessary for everyone to remember that this serves as a bridge that makes the past, present and future of the hometown a single, continuous history.
During the lecture, the students learned more about the people whose names and surnames bear the streets of their hometown. The children themselves actively participated in the conversation, talking about the streets where they live. Everyone was very interested in solving a thematic crossword puzzle related to the names of the city’s streets, and the most active children received books about Bolgar.
