On December 12, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve N.R. Galimullina held an interactive educational event “Arabic script in the history of Volga Bulgaria” dedicated to World Arabic Language Day. The event was conducted at the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization for 19 children of Bolgar secondary school No. 1.
As is known, the Arabic language penetrated into the territory of Volga Bulgaria with the adoption of Islam at the official level, which further contributed to the gradual transition of the Bulgar script from runic graphics to Arabic, which they subsequently used for another thousand years. As you know, this factor contributed to strengthening the authority of the state in the international arena, reviving trade, economic and cultural contacts with the countries of the East, consolidating the Bulgar nationality, and building a vibrant and distinctive spiritual culture of the ancestors of the Tatar people.
During the event, the children got acquainted with the museum’s exposition, learned the history of the development of writing and the spread of Islam in the Middle Volga region and the Urals, actively participated in various tasks, for example, they eagerly searched for items with Arabic script and runic signs in the museum’s windows. The children were very interested in the Arabic graphics feature, and at the end of the event, they tried to write their names in Arabic letters.
