On November 27, as part of the project “Bolgar for All” implemented at the expense of the “Tatneft” Charitable Foundation, 12 schoolchildren of grades 1-7 of Bolgar boarding school for children with disabilities attended classes at the archaeological site, in the creative studio “Territory of Opportunities” and the “Bulgar Masters” workshops of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve.
In the archaeology classes at the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, students learned to identify archaeological objects, and with what type of activity they are associated. The children participated very actively in the proposed task: to find objects related to pottery. From their findings in the “excavations”, they correctly identified objects created from clay. Children selected identical fragments of the jug and tried to restore its integrity, thereby learning about the restoration of the finds.
In the classes at the pottery workshop, some of the children became potters themselves, learned how to make jugs on a potter’s wheel and mastered the technique of decorating with ornaments. In the carpentry workshop, the participants learned how to work with a jigsaw. They cut out animal figures and applied a pattern by burning on stencils. In the creative studio, part of the group continued to work on looms and created their own little dolls from scraps of cloth and thread. Of course, the sand tables were not ignored where the children really like to create their paintings, resting and relaxing.
Learning about the world of the museum through direct contact with it, children become more deeply involved in history. Seeing the results of their work, they are liberated. Schoolchildren reveal their creative potential, so they always come to classes with great pleasure.
