On November 11, 2025, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve D.P. Hramov held for the students of Bolgar secondary school No. 1 an educational event “Development of science in Volga Bulgaria” dedicated to World Science Day.
The students became acquainted with the history of the ancient state of Volga Bulgaria. They learned that the strong relations of Volga Bulgaria with the countries of the East laid the foundation for close contacts in the field of science and culture. Bulgar scientists, returning to their homeland after studying in the scientific and cultural centers of the East, wrote their works following the example of the writings of their Eastern teachers, compiled comments on their works, and disseminated their scientific ideas in their state. The largest scientific centers of the country were the cities of Bulgar, Suvar and Saksin. The most educated part of the population were theologians, preachers, judges and government officials. Sciences such as mathematics, astronomy, chemistry, medicine, geography and history have developed significantly in Volga Bulgaria.
In the presentation, the students saw preserved writing materials from the 13th-14th centuries and lists of works from the period of Volga Bulgaria including a list of the world-famous poem “Kissa-i Yusuf” (“The Legend of Yusuf”) authored by the Bulgar medieval poet Kul Gali. Getting to know him became an important step for schoolchildren in studying the history of culture.
26 people attended the event.
