On November 7, 2025, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Rogachyova M.N. held an event “Bolgar is the city of craftsmen” for 3rd grade students of Bolgar secondary school No. 1 in order to expand children’s historical knowledge, develop their interest in the history of their native land, and acquaint them with the traditional crafts of Volga Bulgaria.
During the event, the students visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization and became familiar with various crafts that were developed in the city of Bolgar, such as metallurgy, blacksmithing, pottery, construction, bone cutting, leathercrafting and making jewelry. The children learned a lot about the history of the development of crafts in ancient Bolgar, about the working tools of artisans, their purpose and application, and also saw the handicrafts themselves, heard the legends. In the proposed task, like real researchers of the past, the students, using copies of archaeological finds, tried to identify the object, its purpose, and which of the artisans made it. The children visited the real masters of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve, who introduced them to folk art crafts: needlework, weaving, carpentry, and at the master class, they made candles from wax with great interest. On this day, the participants became familiar not only with the ancient crafts of the Bolgar city, but also with modern types of decorative and applied arts, as well as gained new knowledge and a lot of vivid impressions.
Twelve people attended the event.
