On October 10, a researcher of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve N.O. Ahundov held for 17 tourists from Moscow an event “Battle for the Caucasus” dedicated to a number of battles in the North Caucasus region.
The Battle for the Caucasus took place from July 25, 1942 to October 9, 1943. It is conventionally divided into two stages: the offensive of the German-Romanian troops (July 25 — December 31, 1942) and the counteroffensive of the Soviet troops (January 1 — October 9, 1943).
In the autumn of 1942, German-Romanian troops occupied most of the Kuban and the North Caucasus, but after their defeat at Stalingrad in February 1943, they were forced to retreat due to the threat of encirclement.
The memory of this battle is vividly reflected in Soviet cinema: “The Interrupted Song” (1960), “The White Explosion” (1969), “The Ballad of the Old Weapon” (1986), etc. In Russia, October 9 is the day of military glory — the Day the Soviet troops defeated the Nazi troops in the battle for the Caucasus.
The tourists listened to the material about this battle and watched archival footage of Soviet and German military camera operators.
