On October 6, the opening of the exhibition “Treasures of the Bolgar land” took place in the Bolgar Museum–Reserve. The museum and exhibition complex “Memorial Sign” has become a venue for hosting a unique exhibition from the collection of the Bolgar Museum–Reserve.
A treasure is a hidden accumulation of money withdrawn from circulation for the purpose of accumulation. Another purpose of the treasure is to preserve the coins in times of danger. Coin hoards of various historical periods have been discovered on the territory of the Bolgar settlement and its surroundings. In 2001, during the work of the expedition of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve, few in number but historically valuable coins of X century of the Samanid dynasty and the so—called fels coins were discovered. The Jochid coins of the second half of XIII – the end of XIV centuries are most widely represented in the hoards. The numismatic collection from the funds of the Bolgar Museum–Reserve attracts the attention of numismatic researchers. Some of the treasures have been published in numismatic collections. The coins of the above-described treasures characterize the monetary circulation of Volga Bulgaria.
The exhibits of the exhibition “Treasures of the Bolgar land” are 12 treasures, which consist of gold and silver coins from different eras, and one treasure trove includes tools, jewelry, clay products. J. G. Muhametshin, a senior researcher at the Bolgar Museum-Reserve, Candidate of Historical Sciences, conducted a detailed tour of the exposition. Museum guests – residents of Bolgar, tourists and employees of the museum–reserve, attended the opening of the exhibition.
