On October 4, the head of the department of storage of immovable monuments of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirova L.A. held an information and educational event “Medicine of Volga Bulgaria” for 15 tourists.
Written sources allow us to present Volga Bulgaria as one of the medieval centers of scientific knowledge development including medicine, natural sciences and pharmacology. Bolgar doctors and their scientific works were widely known and popular throughout the Muslim world, especially in the field of pharmacology. The medical writings preserved to this day and the objects of material culture discovered during archaeological research, as well as the living traditions of folk medicine, are the most valuable sources for studying the peculiarities of the dissemination of natural scientific knowledge in Volga Bulgaria and highlighting the history of the development of medical science among the Tatar people.
The event took place at the museum “Healer’s House” where guests had a tour of the museum’s halls introducing medicine, which was well developed in Volga Bulgaria. The tourists were presented with authentic tools and accessories of ancient healers and books on healing. A quiz was also prepared, in which the guests actively participated and received memorable gifts.
