On September 21, 2025, the museum and exhibition complex “Memorial Sign in honor of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgars in 922” hosted the opening of an exhibition by Gulnaz Ismagilova, a famous calligrapher from Kazan.
The author is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia and the Chamber of Crafts of the Republic of Tatarstan, participant of more than 50 exhibitions in Kazan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, USA, Turkey, Algeria, India, Uzbekistan and Iran.
The exhibition featured 15 works. These are graphic compositions – tugras, shamails, calligraphic panels, and ornamental works – tezhip.
The artist turns to the Islamic art of Tatarstan and other regions, and rethinks it in her work. The topic of dialogue with tradition is important to her. Along with the utmost respect for the text of the Quran, a number of works of a philosophical and religious nature are filled with musical forms and expressive compositions. The exhibition demonstrates the dynamism of Islamic art culture, which combines tradition with creative search.
Distinguished guests – Rustam Minnikhanov, the Head of Tatarstan, and His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the Supreme Ruler of Malaysia, visited the exhibition of calligraphy.
