On September 10, a researcher of the department “Museum of Bulgarian Civilization” of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve S.V. Krivosheyeva conducted an interactive lesson “The seventh in the alphabet” for the students of the 2nd grade of Bolgar secondary school No. 2. Thirteen people attended the class.
The students learned the history of the letter “ё”, as well as six interesting facts about its origin. Everyone pronounces this letter, but almost no one writes it. The absence of this letter leads to a distortion of the meaning of many words. There are about 12,500 words with the letter “ё” in Russian. The children actively recalled and named words, first names and surnames with this letter.
“Ё” is the youngest letter of our alphabet.
“Ё” is a native Russian letter. It reflects on writing a phenomenon that has arisen in Russian colloquial speech.
Stalin insisted on printing the letter “ё” in books and newspapers.
In 2005, a monument dedicated to the letter “ё” appeared. It was installed in Ulyanovsk (formerly Simbirsk– the birthplace of Karamzin) by decision of the city hall. The monument is a triangular granite prism with a lowercase letter “ё” stamped on it.
