On July 12, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. held an interactive event “Amazing Bolgar” for the guests of the museum.
During the event, tourists learned that the city is located on the bank of the Volga River south of the confluence of the Kama River and south of the capital of Tatarstan, Kazan. It contains evidence of the existence of the medieval city of Bolgar, an ancient settlement of the Volga Bulgars, which existed in the period from the 10th to the 15th centuries. In the 13th century, the city became the first capital of the Golden Horde, remaining an important trading center during the period of the Kazan Khanate. The spatial context has been preserved: an earthen rampart, various religious and civil structures including a mosque, a minaret, baths, ruins of the Khan’s palace and tombs.
The guests visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization where they got acquainted with the museum’s exposition, learned about the origin and development of the museum-reserve, about research and archaeological excavations, and also visited the Museum of Koran, the Museum of the History of the Assumption Church, and saw the preserved architectural monuments.
