On July 9, a researcher of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve N.O. Ahundov held for a tourist group from the Leningrad Region an event “The legendary Battle of Poltava” dedicated to the Day of military glory.
The participants of the event learned interesting details from the history of the victorious battle in the Northern War of 1700-1721, knew about the famous victory, about the tactics of Peter the Great and the Russian military. Even before the battle, Peter I specifically lured the Swedes, first depriving the enemy army of the opportunity to replenish supplies for soldiers and cavalry, which could not but affect the spirit of the army and the combat effectiveness of Charles’s cavalry.
Tourists learned that it was the Russians who first began to build earthworks during the war and created horse artillery that was rapidly changing its location.
After listening to the material on this event, as well as watching footage from Vladimir Petrov’s film “Peter the Great” (1937), the guests showed great interest and received a lot of new information.
