On May 19, a researcher of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Muhametshin I.D. held a lecture “Mongol invasion” for the guests of the museum.
At the lecture, listeners learned about the heroic struggle of the peoples of Asia and Europe with the Mongol invaders. Genghis Khan started conquering campaigns, and his sons and grandsons continued to conquer the lands. In 1223, the Russian-Polovtsian army was defeated on the river Kalka. The Mongols themselves were soon defeated by the Bulgars. In 1236, troops of Batu Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, ruined Volga Bulgaria. Bolgar was captured and completely destroyed. In 1237-1240, the Russian principalities were subdued, after which the Mongols moved to central Europe, passing through Poland, Bohemia, Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria. Having learned about death of khan Ugedei, Batu khan was compelled to interrupt a campaign and to turn back.
As a result of the Mongol invasion, many cities were ruined, and thousands of people were taken away in captivity. Volga Bulgaria and Russia fell under the power of Ulus Dzhuchi. Already in the middle of XIII century, Bolgar has revived as the important trading center of the new state.
17 people attended the lecture.
