On March 24, the State Historical-Artistic Palace and Park Museum-Reserve “Gatchina” held an event “Keeper’s Day” dedicated to the memory of the legendary keeper of the Gatchina Museum S.N. Balaeva, the head of the work to save the collections during the Great Patriotic War.
“Keeper’s Day” has been held at the State Museum-Reserve ‘Gatchina’ annually since 2011, on S. N. Balaeva’s birthday. This year’s event began with the laying of flowers at the memorial plaque of S.N. Balaeva. The program covered the following topics: the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, changes and additions to the Uniform Rules, and plans for 2025.
Fund workers of more than 40 museums from different regions of the Russian Federation attended the event. S.G. Pahomova and I.I. Safina, employees of the Storage Department, represented the Bolgar Museum-Reserve.
It is important to note that specifically the funds specialties are not taught in universities. The work of this profession seems to be invisible to the eye of an ordinary visitor, but this work is very labor-intensive and responsible. Employees of museum funds learn professional secrets from senior colleagues, in the process of internships, knowledge and experience come gradually. Communication with colleagues, discussion of various pressing problems and adopting experience are very important for each staff member.
