On February 14, 2025, employees of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Glavnova V.N. and Rogachyova M.N. for 24 schoolchildren of Bolgar cadet boarding school held an informational and educational event “A soldier does not choose a war…” timed to coincide with the Day of withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan and the Day of Defender of the Fatherland.
Afghan war… This word combination entered on December 25, 1979 in the lives of people living in a huge country called the USSR. This war lasted for 2238 days. A lot of grief, troubles and suffering brought to our people these nine years of cruel battles in a foreign land. But even there, in distant Afghanistan, Soviet soldiers showed the best human qualities: courage, fortitude and nobility.
From the presentation “I Live and Remember”, the pupils became acquainted with the reasons of the Soviet troops entering Afghanistan, the course of the war and the historical significance of the Afghan war. The students were shown a video “To the Memory of the Fallen for the sake of the Living”, from which they learned in what incredibly difficult conditions of combat life, hourly exposed to mortal danger, the Soviet soldiers remained faithful to the military oath, military and human duty. The children read poems about Afghanistan, told about their friends and relatives – participants of combat operations not only in the Afghan war, but also in the special military operation in Ukraine. At the end of the event, children listened to songs about Afghanistan, which were formed in the hearts of young soldiers during the war. Today we bow our heads before the memory of the fallen.
