On January 5, 2025, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Ahundov N.O. held an event “Traditions of celebrating the New Year”.
As part of educational work and the first days of the New Year, tourists learned about the history and conduct of this holiday, the traditions of celebration and their development among different peoples.
In Russia, the customs of the holiday originate from the Soviet times where the New Year was solemnly celebrated since January 1, 1936. This holiday replaced the traditional celebration of Christmas and partially adopted its symbolism. Such a tradition is generally preserved today. Also in Russia, there is a custom to celebrate the Old New Year, which comes from January 13 to January 14 and is associated with the shift of days in the calendar of a century ago.
It should be noted that in many cultures there are different but similar New Year characters. Traditionally in Russia, Ded Moroz and his granddaughter Snegurochka give presents to children, and kids tell them poems.
At the end of the event, tourists from different regions of the country told about their traditions of celebrating the New Year.
