On December 8, 2024, in the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization opened the exhibition “Every time has its own clock”. It presents clocks of the most popular Soviet, Russian, famous foreign brands, aimed at the general public, from the funds of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve.
The history of the device, which counts down the time and is called a clock, dates back many centuries. It is the oldest invention of humankind, which has traveled a path of hundreds of generations and has evolved from a stick stuck in the ground to an ultra-precise chronometer of mechanical or quartz device with a particularly accurate movement.
The change of seasons, the change of day and night, the movement of the Sun and Moon across the sky subconsciously suggested to ancient people the first concepts for measuring time. Time passed, and man began to think about how to count the number of days and time correctly. He began to invent various devices, such as a strap with knots, a board with notches where, making a notch and untying a knot each day, you can count the number of days passed. But no device like the movement of the sun has not helped man to determine the time most accurately. The movement of the sun formed the basis of the first sundial, which appeared about 5,500 years ago.
Now watches are with us everywhere: on the hand, in the pocket, at home, at school, at the station, in the store, on the computer, on the phone…. They differ in shape and size but they have one purpose – to measure time.
The exhibition will continue until April 15, 2025.
