On 10 September 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Galimullina N.R. for 14 children of the 3rd grade of Bolgar sanatorium boarding school held an interactive and educational event on ‘Bolgar is the city of scientists’ dedicated to the International Literacy Day.
Today there are more than 700 million illiterate people in the world. There are also those who have never seen a book. Among them are more than 70 million children. For many, going to school and getting an education is a big dream. This problem is especially acute in third world countries with low level of economic development, where there are wars and civil unrest. All of this was the premise for this holiday to be established.
The event took place on the historical embankment of the Bolgar ancient settlement in the Museum of Writing – an open-air museum. The schoolchildren received information about the holiday, learnt how the education of the population developed on the territory of Volga Bulgaria. The Museum of writing introduced the children to the history of writing and types of graphics. Kids learnt to distinguish different types of script: runic, Arabic, Latin and Cyrillic. They collected proverbs-puzzles in Arabic and Russian, listened attentively to the instructive poem ‘One Advice’ by the Tatar poet M. Jalil, found the translation of this work on the stone stele and identified the type of graphics used in the given period of time. The event ended with a walk along the Alley of Poets.
