On 14 August 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Hramov D.P. held for tourists an information and cognitive event ‘Secrets of Bulgar healers’.
Ancient Bulgars developed traditional medicine for centuries, thanks to numerous eastern manuscript sources were familiar with excellent examples of medicine of Ancient Greece – the works of Hippocrates and Galen, had knowledge obtained from the great works of Avicenna, Abu Rayhan al-Biruni and other outstanding medical scientists. Specially trained people – tabibs with deep knowledge of medical science, knowing the qualities of medicinal herbs and methods of making medicines, carried out medical practice.
The participants of the event got acquainted with the exposition of the museum ‘Healer’s House’, learnt that medicine in Volga Bulgaria in X-XI centuries from folk medicine gradually became scientific, and the most ancient books of Bulgar medical scientists have reached our days. They have scientific, historical and practical value; allow to keep continuity in the study of medicine.
