On 9 August 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Ahundov. N.O. for 20 tourists from Samara held an information lesson “The first naval victory” in honor of the victory of the Russian fleet in the Battle of Gangut.
The Battle of Gangut was the first naval victory of the Russian fleet, which played an important role in the further development of the Northern War. Russia gained several important advantages at once. Firstly, the Russian fleet freed the way to the coast of Sweden, with which there was a war; secondly, the Swedes suffered heavy losses; thirdly, the victory had an ideological significance, strengthening the morale of Russian sailors and making everyone talk about the success of the Russian fleet.
To mark the victory in the Battle of Gangut, festivities were organized in St. Petersburg. The Russian troops marched under the triumphal arch, which depicted an eagle sitting on the back of an elephant.
The Battle of Gangut was not just a demonstration of the capabilities of Russian sailors. It significantly influenced the whole outcome of the Northern War and was a big step towards the establishment of the Russian Empire.
The tourists listened attentively to the prepared lecture and learnt a lot of new information about the history of Russia and the Day of Military Glory.
