On 12 July 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. held an event on “Amazing Bolgar” for 13 guests of the museum.
During the event, the tourists learnt about the history of the ancient city of Bolgar. The city as a complex phenomenon of the historical process reflects all sides and features of the development of society. One of the leading cities of Volga Bulgaria was Bolgar. As an urban unit, it emerged in the 9th-10th centuries on a natural elevation at the confluence of the Kama and Volga rivers. Such a convenient geographical position at the junction of the main water arteries was of great trade and military-strategic importance. Therefore, Bolgar became the capital of the created Volga Bulgaria.
Bolgar became the centre of interaction between the East and the West. The city was multinational, Finno-Ugric and Turkic nationalities lived in it. With the adoption of Islam, urban and rural settlements began to grow rapidly, and a common material and spiritual culture was formed throughout the territory. In 1236, as a result of the invasion of Mongol troops, Bolgar was subjected to devastation and barbaric burning, but its convenient location was highly appreciated by the Mongols, and they, having annexed the lands of Volga Bulgaria to their state, located here the headquarters of the Golden Horde viceroys. This contributed to the rapid restoration of Bolgar and its prosperity.
The participants of the event visited the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization where they became acquainted with the exposition of the museum, learned about the emergence and development of the museum-reserve, about the research and archaeological excavations carried out on the territory of the reserve, and saw the preserved architectural monuments.
