On 1 June 2024, a researcher of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Krivosheyeva S.V. held an interactive event ‘Drawing on the asphalt’ for 23 guests of the museum.
On the first day of summer, International Children’s Day is celebrated in many countries. This holiday is familiar to many Russians as the International Child Protection Day.
At this event, children learnt that International Children’s Day is one of the oldest holidays. The decision to celebrate it was made in 1925 at the World Conference on the Welfare of Children in Geneva. History is silent as to why it was decided to celebrate this children’s holiday on 1 June.
According to one version, in 1925 the Consul General of China in San Francisco gathered a group of Chinese orphans and arranged for them a holiday Duan-wu tse (Dragon Boat Festival), the date of which fell on 1 June. As luck would have it, the day also coincided with the time of the ‘children’s’ conference in Geneva.
Within the excursion program, the students became acquainted with museum objects and architectural monuments of XIII-XIV centuries. The event ended with asphalt drawings and a quiz dedicated to Children’s Day.
