On 24 May 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Bitunova Y.A. gave a lecture on “The origins of the Slavonic script” for 21 students of Lyceum No. 7 in Kazan.
24 May is the Day of Slavonic Script and Culture, the day of honoring the holy enlighteners Cyril and Methodius who gave the Slavs the written language, the alphabet that we still use today. The Day of Slavonic Script and Culture is a tribute to those who more than 1000 years ago compiled the Slavonic alphabet and gave us the opportunity to read and write. That is why on the Day of Slavonic Script and Culture – the day of commemoration of Equal Apostles Cyril and Methodius – we remember that we live in a country we are proud of, we have something to love, and each of us is a bearer of centuries-old culture of the Russian language.
During the lecture, the children learnt a lot of new and interesting things about the history of the emergence and development of the Slavonic script, about the creators of the Cyrillic alphabet, and also learnt about the differences between the modern and initial Cyrillic alphabet. At the end, the children painted souvenirs as keepsakes under the guidance of the master of artistic painting.
