On 23 May 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Usmanova D.O. held an event on “Bolgar is the city of masters” for 10 students of Bolgar Children’s School of Arts.
In the economy of Volga Bulgaria in X-early XIII centuries, an important role was played by urban crafts, which became an independent branch of production. Its products were exported not only to the domestic market, but also to other countries. In Volga Bulgaria, various kinds of crafts developed: pottery, casting of bronze, jewelry making, bone-cutting and others.
During the event, the children had a playful excursion through the halls of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization where they became acquainted with the handicraft traditions of Volga Bulgaria. Schoolchildren learnt the secrets of Bulgar masters of ferrous metallurgy, coppersmiths and bronze-castors, bone-cutters, tanners, jewelers and potters.
The event was dynamic and fun, causing a lot of positive emotions and impressions among its participants.
