On 23 May 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Glavnova V.N. gave a lecture on “The city of Bolgar is a glorious city” for 23 schoolchildren of Ulyanovsk.
The city of Bolgar was founded in IX-X centuries by Turkic-speaking tribes. Here passed important trade routes that connected Russia with eastern countries. Arabs also came here. In 922, the ceremony of official adoption of Islam took place in the city of Bolgar. Scientists lived here, poets created here. Local artisans including masons, blacksmiths, tanners and others were famous far beyond the borders of their state. Annual fairs took place in Bolgar, which were attended by merchants from many countries. Bolgar played an important role in the development of culture of the Bulgar people. The city of Bolgar is a symbol of spirituality, and it became a revered place for the Tatar people.
At the lecture, the children learnt the history of the emergence of Bolgar, became acquainted with the architectural monuments that have been preserved on the territory of the ancient settlement and heard the legends. They answered questions on the topic, learnt the names of medieval objects in a game form, and the quiz “Ancient Bolgar – World Heritage Site” at the end of the event helped to consolidate knowledge. The children had a lot of bright impressions, photos and souvenirs painted with their own hands.
