On 21 May 2024, a researcher of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Muhametshin I.D. delivered a lecture “Mongol invasion” for visitors. The conquering campaigns of the Mongol armies had a huge impact on the life of many states and peoples. One of the peoples subjected to the devastating raid of the Mongols were the Bulgars. The listeners learnt about little-known facts of struggle of Bulgars against invaders.
The first attempts to conquer Volga Bulgaria have ended unsuccessfully for Mongols. After long preparation, in 1236 Mongolian armies have fallen on Bulgaria. Many towns and villages were destroyed including the glorious cities of Bilyar and Bolgar. However, Bulgars did not want to submit to invaders for a long time. It is known that two tsareviches Bayak and Djiku have revolted, but revolt has been brutally suppressed. Bulgar lands have been included in structure of Golden Horde.
