On 19 May 2024, the traditional large-scale solemn event “Izge Bolgar zhiyeny” dedicated to the Day of the official adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria took place on the territory of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve. The event attracts tens of thousands of people from all over the country and many compatriots from abroad. The official opening of the holiday took place on the stage in front of the Memorial Sign. The solemn ceremony was attended by the Head of Tatarstan R. Minnikhanov, State Counsellor of Tatarstan M. Shaimiev, Chairman of the Central Spiritual Board of Muslims of Russia Talgat Tajuddin, Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gainutdin, Metropolitan Kirill of Kazan and Tatarstan, as well as other religious figures of Russia. Participants of the XV International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” 2024 also became guests of the holiday. After the official opening of the holiday, the noon namaz took place at the Cathedral Mosque.
A number of events took place on this festive day. From the very morning, a bright cultural and educational program was presented on the main stage of the holiday. At the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, a master class on medieval ink-making technologies was held on an interactive platform.
The Koran Museum continued the exhibition “Rizaetdin Fakhreddin – scientist and theologian” on the 165th anniversary of his birth. The exposition presents museum items, documents and personal belongings of the religious figure from the funds of the Memorial Museum of R. Fakhreddin in Kichuchatovo village of Almetyevsky municipal district of the Republic of Tatarstan.
International competitions in belt wrestling Koresh were held. More than 100 batyrs from 17 countries took part in the competitions. Also at the holiday, there was a fair of products of folk arts and crafts from all over Russia. During the day, all the objects of the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve welcomed guests of the holiday. This year, over 20,000 people took part in the festivities.
