On 14 May 2024, within the framework of his working visit to Tatarstan, the President of the World Confederation of Ethnosport Bilal Erdogan – son of the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the Bolgar Museum-Reserve.
During the excursion in the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization, the guest showed great interest in the history of Volga Bulgaria and the adoption of Islam on the territory of the ancient state. He saw the world’s largest printed Koran, which was included in the Guinness Book of Records, at the Memorial Sign in honor of adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgars in 922. Bilal Erdogan left an entry in the Museum’s Book of Honored Guests.
The guest was impressed by the architectural monuments of XIII-XIV centuries preserved in the ancient settlement. He noted the importance and significance of these places for the history of the Tatar people.
After noon namaz in the White Mosque, Bilal Erdogan visited the Bolgar Islamic Academy where he was presented the scientific and educational activities of the Academy, was introduced to the exposition of Muslim manuscripts and printed books, the work of the laboratory for restoration and digitization of ancient manuscripts.
