On 3 May 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. for 8 children of a kindergarten “Kolosok” held a lecture on “Legends of the ancient city”.
On the high left bank of the Volga River, not far from Kazan, lie the ruins of an ancient city. The name “Great Bolgar” speaks of its former power and glory. Bolgar was founded in the 10th century by the Volga Bulgars, the ancestors of the modern Tatars. It was among the largest and richest cities of the Volga region.
The squares and streets of this city were decorated with mosques, minarets and palaces. It was a major trading centre of Eastern Europe. Several monumental constructions, remains of fortifications in the form of moat and ramparts, stone ruins of buildings and hills covering the ruins have been preserved from the once large, crowded city.
During the lecture, the children became acquainted with the history of the city, learned about the legends and myths of their native land and with the help of colorful presentation got acquainted with the architectural monuments of XIII-XIV centuries.
