On 24 April 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Glavnova V.N. gave a lecture on “Science is the main driving force of progress” for 8 schoolchildren of the Children’s School of Arts, dedicated to the year of scientific and technological development.
Man is always striving for new knowledge. The future promises fantastic findings, fabulous surprises and marvelous discoveries. Man has always longed for the boundaries in which he lived and strived to discover the unknown. If this process had not taken place, if humankind had not moved forward, it would probably still be in the Stone Age, wielding stone knives and walking in rags.
Russian science is developing rapidly. The world’s most powerful neutron reactor is operating in our country, the largest neutrino telescope in the Northern Hemisphere has been installed, and a unique synchrotron of generation 4+ is under construction. The development of science and technology goes in parallel with each other. In order to popularize the state policy in the sphere of science and technology development, to preserve the traditions of Russian science, the President of Russia V. Putin declared 2022-2031 the Decade of Science and Technology. This decision is dictated by the desire to develop technology in the country, to improve the welfare of the Russian population.
During the lecture, the students learnt many interesting things about famous Russian scientists. They were shown a story about the fields of science in which D.I. Mendeleev and M.V. Lomonosov worked, what discoveries the scientists made. Schoolchildren drew what an atom might look like and then compared it with the real image. The children learnt that the world’s first personal computer was invented not by the American company Apple Computers in 1975, but in the USSR in 1968 by a Soviet designer from Omsk, A.A. Gorohov. Copyright certificate No. 383005 described in detail the “programming device”, as the inventor called it at the time. But no money was given for the industrial sample. The inventor was asked to wait a bit. He waited until once again a domestic “bicycle” was invented abroad.
To consolidate the material, a quiz “I want to know everything” was held.
