On 19 April 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. held for the guests an event on “What the old town is silent about” timed to the International Day of Monuments and Historical Sites.
The motto of the International Day of Monuments and Historic Sites was “Let’s preserve our historical homeland”. The holiday has been celebrated since 1984 to draw public attention to the protection and preservation of the world’s cultural heritage. It provides an opportunity to learn more about the diversity of the world’s heritage and the efforts made to protect and preserve it. The idea to establish the holiday belonged to scientists, architects, restorers, workers of state bodies for the protection of historical and cultural monuments. This day, also known as World Heritage Day, was instituted in 1982 by the Assembly of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) established under UNESCO.
During the event, tourists learnt about the history of the holiday, visited museums and architectural monuments of XIII-XIV centuries of the ancient city of Bolgar.
