In connection with the fact that 2024 is declared the Year of Science and Innovation in Russia, on 16 April 2024 for 12 schoolchildren of Bolgar Children’s School of Arts an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Galimullina N.R. held a lecture on “Science around us”. The theme of the lecture is devoted to the foundation of the Russian Academy of Sciences by Peter the Great. It was this step of the Russian Emperor 300 years ago that started the formation of Russian science. In 2022, the Decade of Science and Technology was declared by the Decree of the President of Russia.
During the lecture, the children learnt about M.M. Gerasimov’s unique method of restoring the appearance of people with only their skulls. Nowadays this method is constantly being improved, X-ray, ultrasound and 3D-technologies are used, which allow to get a virtual copy of the skull and work with it on the computer. The presentation “Faces from the past” helped schoolchildren to get acquainted with the works of the great scientist, to learn how Neanderthals, Ivan the Terrible, Yaroslav the Wise and other historical figures looked like. The lecture aroused great interest among the schoolchildren. They asked questions and looked at the reconstructions of the inhabitants of Bolgar in a new way. Kids expressed their desire to come and visit our “temple of history” again.
