On 5 March 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. for 11 children attending Bolgar House of Children’s Creativity held an event on “Happy first holiday of spring” timed to coincide with the International Women’s Day on 8 March.
In Russia, the celebration of International Women’s Day became a tradition almost immediately after the moment of “invention”, since 2 March 1913.
Until 1914, the holiday was marked on different dates in March. The tradition of celebrating 8 March became stronger everywhere after the women of Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and other countries celebrated it on this day in 1914. Since 1918, International Women’s Day on 8 March became a public holiday. Since 1965, this day became a non-working day. There was also its festive ritual – at solemn events, the state reported to society on the implementation of state policy on women. In 1977, the UN adopted resolution 32/142, calling on all countries to proclaim 8 March as a day of struggle for women’s rights – International Women’s Day.
During the event, the children learned the history of the holiday, and how 8 March is celebrated in other countries of the world. Kids guessed riddles, solved crossword puzzles, actively participated in a quiz, and at the end of the lesson, they made colorful postcards.
