On 28 February 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Galimullina N.R. delivered a lecture “Escape from hell” for 9 recipients of social services of the State Autonomous Social Institution “Spassky Residential Home for the Elderly and Disabled”, timed to the 79th anniversary of the escape of Soviet prisoners of war from the most secret German missile base – Penemünde. Largely because of the feat of the Russian pilot, this German missile and research centre was unable to complete the so-called “weapon of retaliation”, with which Hitler planned to turn the course of the Second World War. According to the memoirs of M.P. Devyataev, two autobiographical books “Escape from hell” and “Flight to the Sun” were written.
During the lecture, the elderly people received information about the feat of Soviet citizens who by the will of tragic circumstances found themselves in captivity, but did not stop fighting, did not lose faith in the victory and did not bow their heads before the enemy. By his escape, our compatriot brought the end of the war closer, not letting fascist Germany gather its forces. At the end of the event, one of the wards shared her memories from her distant childhood, when M.P. Devyataev came to their boarding school in Kazan and told them about his heroic deed.
