In February 1985, the World Federation of Tour Guides Association was founded at the International Convention of Tour Guides. Its aim was to raise the prestige of the profession and to promote regional branch communities. On the initiative of this organization in 1990, the holiday of tour guides was established.
Every year on 21 February, Russia and other countries celebrate World Tour Guide Day – a holiday of specialists who introduce visitors to the expositions of museums and exhibitions, tell about various attractions and help tourists to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the city or country.
Many museums, exhibition centers, nature reserves, galleries, parks, monuments and other cultural sites around the world invite visitors for free guided tours to celebrate the holiday. In addition, professional societies and associations hold lectures, seminars and master classes for tour guides on the holiday.
On 21 February 2024, within the framework of the celebration of the World Tour Guide Day, a researcher of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Musina G. M. held an event on “There is such a profession – a tour guide” for 13 children of Bolgar kindergarten “Rodnichok”.
During the event, the children made a trip to the Land of Professions and became acquainted with the profession of a tour guide, expanded their knowledge about the world of professional labor. Kids learnt what qualities a guide should have and what a real guide should be. Children talked about the rules of behavior during the excursion, checked their knowledge about their native city and its sights. At the end of the event, they took part in a master class “The profession of a tour guide” and tried to conduct their own excursion. The preschoolers were left with pleasant emotions and unforgettable impressions.
