On 14 February 2024, in the museum “Bolgar tea party” the employees of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Rogachyova M. N. and Safina R. H. held an information and entertainment event on “Sitting at the samovar” for 15 pupils of the 3rd grade of Bolgar secondary school No.1. The aim of the event was expanding the historical knowledge of children, developing respect and love for the cultural heritage of their native land, and introducing them to folk traditions.
Tea drinking in Russia has always characterized kindness, hospitality, which is peculiar to the culture of the Russian and Tatar people and is a feature of their character. The museum “Bolgar tea party” presents a rich exhibition of samovars of XIX-XX centuries, objects and archaeological finds that accompanied the traditions of tea drinking among the peoples of the Volga region in distant times.
During the interactive event, schoolchildren learnt a lot of interesting things about tea drinking traditions in Russia, got acquainted with a large collection of samovars of the museum, studied the device of samovar in a game form, heard old Russian and Tatar proverbs about tea drinking, actively guessed riddles. A master class on gingerbread painting was held for the children. Kids themselves tried to decorate their own gingerbread with icing and were very pleased that they turned out very beautiful. At the end of the event, everyone drank delicious flavored tea with gingerbread and treats with great pleasure.
