On 14 February 2024, an employee of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve Glavnova V.N. in Bolgar sanatorium boarding school for 16 schoolchildren of the 6th-7th grades held an information and educational event on “A soldier does not choose war” timed to coincide with the Day of withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. The aim of the event was to promote the formation of knowledge about the history of local conflicts, in particular about the Afghan War, as well as the formation of patriotism as a quality of personality of a future citizen through memorable events of the military history of Russia.
During the event, the pupils learnt about the reasons for the Soviet troops entering Afghanistan, the course of the war, the historical significance of the Afghan War. The students watched a presentation and a video about the war. They read poems about Afghanistan, excerpts from the letters of those soldiers who did not return home alive, but died in a foreign land, on the harsh Afghan soil. Pupils told about their acquaintances and relatives who participated in military operations. Children listened to songs about Afghanistan, which were formed in the hearts of young soldiers during the war.
At the end of the event, the schoolchildren observed a minute of silence to honor the memory of those who died on the battlefields and remained soldiers of the Afghan war forever.
