On 22 December 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Bitunova Yu. A. for 14 students of Bolgar secondary school № 1 held an information and educational event on “Holiday promising a miracle”.
New Year is a favorite holiday of adults and children, when everything around is so bright and festive. This cheerful holiday, which has a very interesting history of origin and celebration, is marked not only in Russia, but also in other countries. Humankind has been celebrating New Year since ancient times. Peter I suggested to celebrate New Year in Russia. In 1699, he issued a decree, according to which on the night of 1 January each year, all residents of the country celebrate the arrival of New Year. Folk festivities lasted for 7 days, on the main squares at night burnt lights in tar barrels, fireworks were arranged, and houses smelled of tar and spruce branches.
During the event, schoolchildren learnt about the history of the holiday, its customs and traditions. Kids took an active part in solving riddles, in a quiz and received small gifts.
