On 11 December 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve N.O. Ahundov held an event on “The lost art of healing” for 20 schoolchildren from Samara. The aim of the event was to educate young boys and girls, to form a sustainable interest in history, medicine and healthy lifestyle.
The schoolchildren were given an excursion to the museum “Healer’s house” where they got acquainted with medical instruments-artefacts of the middle ages. Children also learnt about historical sources of medicine of Volga Bulgaria and Arabian East, became familiar with famous doctors, with their works and inventions. Kids saw the first surgical instruments. Some methods of treatment known to historical science were demonstrated to them. Thus, children learnt how the distillation of liquids in chemistry took place in the middle ages on the basis of a ceramic spherocone and a glass alambic.
Schoolchildren learnt the role and influence of thousands of years of knowledge of this science on the modern development and use for treatment today.
