On April 18, 2023, on the International Day of Monuments and Historical Sites an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirova L.A. together with specialists of the State Autonomous Institution of Social Security Center “Rassvet” held for 15 students of the 3rd grade of Bolgar secondary school № 1 an information and educational event on “Back to the past”.
The International Day of Monuments and Historical Sites is traditionally celebrated on April 18 since 1984. The holiday was established by the UNESCO Assembly of the International Council on Monuments and Sites to draw people’s attention to the problems of preservation and protection of the world’s cultural heritage.
The issue of preserving historical heritage has been of concern to people and states since ancient times. In the Russian Empire, a useful innovation on the preservation of monuments belongs to the main reformer – Peter the Great. He signed the first decree in the history of the country on the protection of architectural monuments in 1722. The object of the decree was the ancient city of Bolgar, the capital of the medieval Volga Bulgaria, now a historical and revered place in the Republic of Tatarstan. Peter ordered to carry out conservation work and make copies of the monuments of the Bolgar settlement for further study.
At the event, children learned about the history of the holiday, listened to a tour of the Museum of the History of the Assumption Church and architectural monuments of XIII-XIV centuries. Kids took an active part in the quest and received commemorative presents.
