On 17 April 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. for 12 children attending the House of Children’s Creativity of Spassky municipal district of RT held an event on “Our historical homeland” timed to coincide with the International Day of Monuments and Sites.
At the event, children learnt that the holiday was established in 1983 by the Assembly of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) established under UNESCO. It has been celebrated since 18 April 1984. The motto of the International Day of Monuments and Sites is “Let’s preserve our historical homeland”. The idea to establish the holiday belonged to scientists, architects, restorers, workers of state bodies of protection of historical and cultural monuments.
The Bolgar ancient settlement has preserved its borders, defensive fortifications in the form of a rampart and a moat until now. In 2014, the site was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List at the 38th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
During the event, children learnt the history of the holiday, became familiar with the history of the ancient city of Bolgar and saw the preserved architectural monuments of XIII-XIV centuries.
