On April 10, 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirzyanova L.I. for 18 pupils of the 2nd grade of Bolgar secondary school № 1 gave a lecture on “Journey to space”.
April 12 is the date set to commemorate the first human spaceflight. On April 12, 1961, the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin took off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the spaceship “Vostok-1” and for the first time in the world made an orbital flight around the planet Earth. The flight in the near-Earth space lasted almost 2 hours.
The name of Yuri Gagarin became widely known in the world. The cosmonaut received the rank of major and Hero of the Soviet Union ahead of schedule and put his name and the flight into world history forever.
In April 1962, under the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in our country the Day of Cosmonautics was officially established. In 1969, the International Aeronautical Federation named April 12 World Day of Aviation and Astronautics. April 12 became a big national holiday in honor of pilots-cosmonauts, constructors, engineers, employees and workers who create rockets, spacecraft and satellites.
During the lecture, pupils learned about the history of the holiday, got acquainted with the history of space exploration. They also learned the names of famous scientists and astronauts who made an invaluable contribution to the development of space science.
