On March 23, 2023, employees of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization T.G. Zarifullina, T.P. Kamayeva and V.A. Salnikova conducted an information and cognitive lesson “Ancient Bolgar as the cradle of Islam of the peoples of the Volga region” for 18 students of the 5th grade of Bolgar cadet boarding school.
The adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria was an event that occurred at the end of the first millennium of our era. The official adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgars contributed to strengthening their authority in the international arena, reviving trade, economic and cultural contacts with the countries of the East, consolidating the Bulgar nation and creating a bright and distinctive spiritual culture of the ancestors of Tatar people.
Islam is the “youngest” of the world religions. It appeared in the 7th century among the population of the Arabian Peninsula. Today Islam is one of the most widespread religions on our planet. Its representatives can be found in every corner of the Earth. Islam has several meanings, literally translated as “peace”. Another meaning of this word is “submission to God”.
Children were introduced to the exposition of the Museum of Koran. They learnt the history of the city development and spread of Islam on the territory of Volga Bulgaria, watched a documentary “Treasures of Tatarstan”. Each object in the exhibition has its own unique history and reflects the development of Islam on the territory of Tatarstan. In these objects – the sophistication of the East and the depth of ancient traditions, the centuries-old path of Islam and rich culture of the people for whom it is dear and sacred. Children saw the world’s largest printed Koran, learned about the purpose and use of such Muslim objects as a prayer rug, rosaries, kumgan, a case for Koran and many others.
