On March 22, 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Sabirova L. A. for underage children from the beneficiaries of social services held an interactive museum lesson “Let’s call the skylarks – let’s welcome spring!”
The Slavic holiday Larks is celebrated on March 22 – on the day of spring equinox. It is believed that on this day the human energy changes like water in a vessel where electrical wires were placed, and voltage was applied. The human body is filled with power and heat.
Among Russian people, everywhere there was a belief that on March 22, forty different birds arrive from warm countries, and the first bird is a field lark, so the holiday is called “Larks”.
According to tradition, at the beginning of this holiday, people baked of dough the birds of spring – skylarks, starlings, sandpipers. The birds were handed out to children, and they ran screaming and laughing, calling for the larks and the spring with them.
During the event, students learned the history of the holiday, folk games, folk calendar, traditions and customs. They actively participated in a master class on cooking a traditional Russian holiday treat “Skylark”. The crowning moment of the holiday was a fun, hearty tea party with fragrant traditional baking “larks”.
