On March 17, 2023, an employee of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Bitunova Y. A. held an event on “History in the stone” for 11 students of Bolgar secondary school № 1.
Bolgar Museum-Reserve is the northernmost monument of medieval Muslim architecture of XIII-XIV centuries. It has no analogues in the world as a valuable historical monument testifying of the vanished states (Volga Bulgaria, Golden Horde), vanished culture, way of life, having a significant influence on the development of culture and architecture during X-XV centuries.
The history of peoples was expressed not only in the development of economy, in political events and spiritual activity of people, but also in the architectural heritage. Appearance of cities and urban culture in Volga Bulgaria is closely connected with adoption of Islam in 922. This was reflected in the architecture of the state. The location of architectural monuments allows to imagine in general the territory of Volga Bulgaria. All sources indicate that Bulgar cities were fine examples of quality architectural creativity.
During the event, students learned the history of Volga Bulgaria and listened with interest to the legends about the ancient city of Bolgar. Having watched a presentation, children became acquainted with the surviving monuments of XIII-XIV centuries. At the end, schoolchildren collected jigsaw puzzles with images of architectural objects and participated in a quiz.
