On March 14, 2023, employees of the Museum of Bulgarian Civilization T.G. Zarifullina, T.P. Kamaeva and V.A. Salnikova held an information-educational lesson “Great Bolgar, the northern pearl of the East!” for 10 students of grades 10-11 of Bolgar cadet boarding school. The lesson was held with the purpose of forming a sense of citizenship and patriotism, expanding the schoolchildren’s horizons and raising an interest in the study of history of their country.
The first mention of the city dates back to the beginning of X century. Once it was a big and beautiful medieval city with wide streets, high minarets, noisy bazaars, dotted with all kinds of foreign goods. The history of the ancient city is full of mysteries and legends. Today many tourists come to Bolgar every day to see the preserved and reconstructed constructions of the 13th-14th centuries and new architectural objects that are treasuries of historical and other museum exhibits.
Children made an excursion into the history of origin of Volga Bulgaria and its capital – the ancient city of Bolgar. They saw unique archaeological finds, medieval household items, coins, jewelry, weapons, and learned about crafts of Great Bolgar. The trip was accompanied by a fascinating quest-game where kids were doing crossword puzzles and composing the key phrase: “Ancient Bolgar is a World Heritage Site”.
In conclusion, schoolchildren watched a film “Treasures of Tatarstan”.
